Builder Drives Traffic with $100K Prize!

Reno, Nev. –  This February, Heartland Homes gave the first 300 people to arrive at the grand opening of their “Summit at Cheat Lake” development the chance to win $100,000, paid for by Odds On Promotions.

The promotion, which was one of a number of events taking place during the grand opening festivities, had “would-be” homebuyers entering a six-digit number into Heartland’s “Lucky Number Machine” (aka one of Odds On’s hand held verification units) for a chance to win a $100,000 prize.

According to Odds On Promotions’ Sales Representative Chris Gardiner, “With competition for home-buyers at an all-time high, this offer is a real attention-getter. I mean, $100,000 makes for a substantial down payment on a new home. And, since Odds On writes the check when there’s a winner, it’s an affordable way to pique consumer interest, make your advertising more effective and ideally grab some free headlines along the way. Where I think Homeland was particularly smart was in offering a number of consolation prizes including flatscreen tvs – another great perk a would-be homebuyer can appreciate.

golf ball drop contest
Pago-Pago, American Samoa – Looking to raise more money at your golf event this season? Maybe it’s time to add a golf ball drop to your event! The people of American Samoa are another step closer to the dream of having their first community swimming pool thanks to the Rotary Club’s 6th Annual Golf Tournament & $50,000 Golf Ball Drop. Contestants in the golf ball drop purchase one of 1000 numbered golf balls which are then dropped from a bucket truck onto a target “hole”. If any of the five numbered balls falling closest to the hole match a preselected lucky golf ball number, the “owner” wins $50,000, paid for by Odds On Promotions. While there wasn’t a $50,000 grand prize winner, three lucky ball-buyers still received some fantastic prizes. The first-place winner, Spencer Sword, took home a round-trip ticket to Honolulu, courtesy of Hawaiian Airlines. The second-place winner, Jackie Young, picked up $500 and the third-place winner was Jeff Shively who won $250. This year’s event helped the Rotarians to surpass their $100,000 fundraising goal getting them that much closer to a community pool.

Insuring a Shot at Glory at Phoenix Waste Management Open

Phoenix, AZ –  Have you ever wondered what it would be like to hit a shot on the famed par-3, 16th hole at the TPC Scottsdale during the Waste Management Phoenix Open?

Two lucky golf fans, along with a host of local media personalities, Hollywood celebrities, community heroes and tournament sponsors got the chance to do exactly that a few weeks ago as they teed-it-up for charity in a unique closest-to-the-pin contest known as the “Shot at Glory”, which took place immediately following the FBR/Xerox Silver Pro-Am prior to the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

Tournament hosts, The Thunderbirds, award more than $100,000 to the celebrities’ chosen charities during this unique event. And, if any participant is lucky enough to make a hole-in-one, Odds On Promotions’ sister company, Hole In One International, pays $1,000,000, to the charity of the acemaker’s choice.

While no one aced Number 16 this year, musician Alice Cooper won the “Shot at Glory”, picking up $40,000 for the Solid Rock Foundation. Brett Frazier from Waste Management, whose charity was Keep America Beautiful, came second, while former Phoenix police officer Jason Schechterle whose charity is the 100 Club, came in third.

Million Dollar Button … UPDATED 2011

Reno, Nev. – This January during the championship final of the BDO Classic Canadian Open, the third leg of the Capital One Grand Slam of Curling series, a lucky curling fan got the chance to shoot for big money on CBC Television during the Capital One Million Dollar Button contest.

A total of 6 semifinalists each threw a rock to see who could come closest to the button and become the finalist who, in order to win the $1 million prize, had to deliver a “rock from the hack” and have it cover the hole in the center of the button on a regulation curling sheet. If the finalist’s rock missed covering the hole in the center of the button, but was touching part of the button, they’d receive $100,000. If the rock was touching the four-foot circle, he or she would take home $25,000; if the rock was touching the eight-foot circle they’d get $10,000 and $5,000 if the rock was touching the 12-foot circle.

While 63-year old finalist Alma Laidlaw, a former curling coach, came up short in the million dollar event, she didn’t go home empty handed. Even though her rock wasn’t touching any of the circles, she still took home a $1,000 prize.

According to Risk Manager Zak Woodhead, “This promotion is a good example of how a sponsor can target a large niche market and really generate a big impact by customizing a million dollar contest exclusively for the given audience – in this case Canadian curling fans.”

UPDATE: Another Year, Another Million Dollar Button Finalist!

Zak Woodhead, Risk Manager for Odds On Promotions reports, “After last year’s successful promotion, once again Capital One sponsored this Million Dollar Button contest at the Canadian Open. Contestant  Teri Schiman didn’t have quite enough to slide her stone over the button and become a millionaire during the BDO Canadian Open, but she didn’t go home empty-handed. She scored $25,000 in prize money for landing her shot inside the 4-foot circle.
